Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho Discusses AI Implementation for Food Security at UGM AI Seminar

Yogyakarta, January 8, 2025 – Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho, Research Coordinator of Smart Agriculture Research Center and Member of the Task Force of UGM's Digital Transformation Bureau, participated as a speaker in the National Seminar "AI for Indonesia" organized by UGM. In the seminar showcasing various AI innovations, Dr. Andri presented the important role of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing food security, particularly in the agriculture sector.

In his presentation, which focused on applying AI to increase productivity and food security, Dr. Andri provided comprehensive understanding of food security as a condition where all people have physical and economic access to safe and nutritious food. He emphasized the importance of food security for health, economic stability, and social well-being, and identified factors affecting it, such as population growth, climate change, poverty, distribution efficiency, and government policy.

Dr. Andri then outlined strategies to increase food production and productivity through advanced agricultural technology, sustainable farming practices, crop diversification, and improved farmer knowledge and skills. He stressed that this strategy is crucial in addressing challenges posed by climate change and ensuring that agricultural productivity meets the demands of a growing population.

Presentation delivered by Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho

The core part of Dr. Andri's presentation was the role of AI in supporting food security. He explained how AI can be used to predict crop yields and weather conditions, optimize food supply chains, detect crop diseases earlier, and apply precision agriculture techniques to increase yields and reduce waste. By leveraging AI, farmers can make better decisions that lead to more efficient resource use and better crop management.
