About Us

The people behind smartagri

We are a research center at Universitas Gadjah Mada that believes the future of farming is grown together, by agronomists, engineers, and farmers like you.

Our mission

Harness AI, sensing, and agronomy so every farmer, whatever the size of their plot, can grow more with less.

Climate volatility, shrinking land, and rising costs hit smallholders first. We build and test the technology that helps them monitor crops, predict yields, and act with confidence.

Rooted in research

The Smart Agriculture Research Center is part of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada, in Yogyakarta. Our team unites researchers across AI, IoT systems, remote sensing, and agronomy.

Everything we publish is field-tested with the cooperatives we serve. Research is only finished when a farmer can use it.

What we're good at

Open Field Technology

Sensing, automation, and mechanization for open-field production, from land preparation to harvest, tuned to smallholder realities.

Irrigation Modernization

Modernizing irrigation systems with telemetry, smart gates, and data-driven scheduling for canals and on-farm water networks.

Smart Estate Technology

Digital tools for plantation estates: block-level monitoring, fleet tracking, and yield recording at estate scale.

Smart UAV Technology

UAV platforms for multispectral mapping, crop scouting, and precision spraying across fields and estates.

Indoor Farming Technology

Controlled-environment agriculture: greenhouses and plant factories with closed-loop climate, light, and nutrient control.

Agro-Informatics

Data platforms, AI models, and decision-support systems that turn farm and field data into actionable insight.
