Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho Introduces IKMC: Knowledge Management Solution for Sustainable Modernization of Irrigation in Manganti Irrigation Area

Banjar City, May 6, 2025. Within the series of Irrigation Modernization Evaluation Activities in the Manganti Irrigation Area (DI Manganti) on May 5-6, 2025, a session on the Introduction of the Irrigation Knowledge Management Center (IKMC) was held by Ir. Andri Prima Nugroho, Ph.D. and Prof. Dr. Sigit Supadmo Arif. This activity is part of the cooperation between the Center for the Study of Irrigation and Agricultural Modernization (PMIP) and the Directorate of Water Resources Engineering, Ministry of Public Works. The presentation titled "Irrigation Knowledge Management Center (IKMC) – Building the Foundation of Knowledge for the Sustainability of National Irrigation Modernization" was attended by various parties, including the Head of BBWS Citanduy, Dr. Elroy Koyari, and Muhammad Ramdhani, Head of the Operations and Maintenance Division of BWS Citanduy.

The IKMC presentation emphasized the importance of structured knowledge management in supporting the sustainability of irrigation modernization. IKMC is designed as a solution to overcome challenges in the implementation of dynamic irrigation technology, ensure program sustainability, and facilitate information access for stakeholders. The IKMC concept, which is a more specific development of the Water Resources Knowledge Management Center, is expected to provide a solution in supporting the application of irrigation technology in the field.

One important point discussed was the need for effective inventory of irrigation technology and standard knowledge taxonomy to facilitate the search and application of appropriate technology. The presentation also highlighted the experience of DI Manganti, which has implemented an advanced irrigation management information system, including forecasting models and artificial intelligence (AI). This system provides access to rainfall information (through Sihka) and real-time data on irrigation conditions.

The interactive discussion involved various questions from participants, including concerns about irrigation constraints in tidal areas, the role of the Irrigation Commission (Komir), and strategies for human resource management. These questions demonstrated the complexity of challenges in irrigation modernization and the importance of an integrated approach involving various parties. The Irrigation Modernization Team provided comprehensive answers and solutions, emphasizing the importance of further studies and recommendations that will be formulated to ensure the success and sustainability of the irrigation modernization program in DI Manganti.

The IKMC presentation in DI Manganti is expected to be an initial step in the implementation of an effective knowledge management system to support the success of irrigation modernization in Indonesia. With a focus on agricultural productivity and climate change mitigation, IKMC aims to enhance the resilience of irrigation systems and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
