SmartAgri UGM and BOSCH Explore Collaboration on Smart Agricultural Research, Focusing on Oil Palm Plantation Challenges

Yogyakarta, May 27, 2025 – Smart Agriculture Research Center at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and global technology giant BOSCH held an important meeting on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, to explore potential strategic research collaboration. This discussion indicates BOSCH's interest in precision agriculture in Indonesia, particularly in addressing complex challenges in oil palm plantations.
The meeting, which took place around 10:11 a.m., was attended by key representatives from both sides. From SmartAgri UGM, present were Ir. Andri Prima Nugroho, Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., APEC Eng., Ardan Wiratmoko, S.T.P., M.Sc., and Muhammad Athala Fawwaz Dzaky, S.T.P. Meanwhile, BOSCH was represented by Pirmin Riegger and Gilrandy Respati.
The primary objective of the meeting was to identify potential areas where UGM's expertise in agriculture and BOSCH's technological innovation could synergize. BOSCH presented their capabilities and interests in agricultural technology, followed by a question-and-answer session and in-depth discussion. The main focus of the discussion centered on challenges in oil palm plantations, including Ganoderma issues, as well as obstacles in implementing and integrating agricultural technology.

During the discussion session, BOSCH specifically highlighted the need for further understanding regarding Ganoderma problems in oil palm plantations, challenges in field technology implementation, and strategies for managing agricultural product distribution. As a reference, an example was also mentioned of water quality monitoring in small and medium industries in Germany that could serve as inspiration.
As a follow-up, both parties agreed to hold further face-to-face meetings, either in Jakarta or at UGM, as well as establish a small working group to identify more concrete and focused collaborative research topics. This collaboration is expected to open the way for significant innovation in Indonesia's agricultural sector, particularly in addressing challenges in oil palm plantations through the application of smart technology.
