Digital Transformation of Agriculture: Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho Shares Smart Farming Knowledge to Achieve Food Security at UNS

Surakarta, November 17, 2025 – The Diploma Three Agribusiness Study Program of the Vocational School at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) successfully held a General Training titled "Smart Farming Training to Achieve Food Security". The activity held at the FISIP Auditorium Building 1 Floor 2 UNS featured Ir. Andri Prima Nugroho, S.T.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., APEC Eng., lecturer and researcher at the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Technology Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), as the main speaker.

This training represents a strategic effort to transform the agricultural sector in the digital era, with a focus on integrating Smart Farming technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT) for data analysis to increase efficiency and strengthen independent, modern, and competitive national food security. This theme becomes the foundation for collaboration on technological innovation and knowledge to build a resilient and adaptive future for Indonesian agriculture.

In his presentation, Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho delivered material on "Digital Transformation of Agriculture: Smart & Precision Farming for Food Security". He emphasized the importance of agricultural digitalization in supporting national food security, and introduced the basic concepts and principles of smart farming for efficient, precise, and sustainable production systems. The participants, who were active students of the Diploma Three Agribusiness program at UNS, gained deep insights and opportunities to directly learn about and try smart farming applications.

The discussion and question-and-answer session proceeded interactively, demonstrating participants' enthusiasm for the topic. Several interesting questions emerged, including those regarding IoT development and development strategies in Indonesia, irrigation discharge measurement, cybersecurity issues in agricultural technology, and the application of IoT in greenhouses to maximize plant growth such as chrysanthemums.

The "Smart Farming Training to Achieve Food Security" activity directly contributes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

Through this activity, it is hoped that students of the Diploma Three Agribusiness program at UNS will not only gain new knowledge, but also be motivated to become agents of change in realizing more advanced, modern, and sustainable Indonesian agriculture for national food security.
