Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho Shares Insights at Meet & Greet Forum: AI-Based Innovators & Researchers UGM to Strengthen AI Research Collaboration

Yogyakarta, January 29, 2026 – Ir. Andri Prima Nugroho, S.T.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., APEC Eng., Lecturer and Researcher from Agricultural Engineering and Biosystems at UGM, participated as a speaker in the "Meet & Greet: AI-Based Innovators & Researchers" event organized by Gadjah Mada University (UGM) on Thursday, January 29, 2026. The event, held at Multimedia Room I, UGM Central Office, 3rd Floor, North Wing, served as a strategic forum to strengthen interdisciplinary Artificial Intelligence (AI) research collaboration within UGM.
This activity is highly relevant given the rapid development of digital technology and AI that is driving transformation across various sectors, including higher education. UGM is committed to leveraging AI to improve operational efficiency, academic service quality, and institutional competitiveness. The forum is important for bridging the high interest of non-technical researchers in AI with access to expertise and supporting infrastructure, as identified in an internal survey by UGM's Digital Transformation Bureau (2024).
The event began with a keynote presentation by Dr. Mardhani Riasetiawan on "Update on AI Innovation Collaboration: NVIDIA, Indosat, Telkom, IndoMobil." Subsequently, Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho together with Dr. Dian K. Nurputra, Ph.D, M.Sc, SpA, Subsp Neuro (K) and Dr.rer.nat. Wiwit Suryanto, S.Si., M.Si., had the opportunity to share insights and experiences regarding AI applications in their respective fields.

The Smart Farming material presented emphasized that modern agricultural challenges are complex and full of uncertainties, thus cannot be adequately addressed through conventional digitalization such as sensors and dashboards alone. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is positioned as the core of truly Smart Farming, as it is capable of transforming data into knowledge, recommendations, and adaptive decision-making actions. The application of AI in agriculture must be contextual and locally based to suit Indonesia's tropical agroecosystem conditions, and must be developed through interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers, technologists, government, industry, and farming practitioners. The material also showcased examples of Smart Farming research and implementation that have been conducted, as well as future development directions through integration of multimodal AI technology based on NVIDIA to support real-time agricultural intelligence.
The interactive discussion session that followed was highly productive, generating various ideas and collaboration opportunities. Overall, the discussion highlighted the importance of developing interdisciplinary AI research, ranging from AI implementation for genomics, the use of drones for disease detection in oil palm plants, to the development of cloud computing infrastructure. Additionally, the forum also discussed strategies to strengthen the AI innovation ecosystem at UGM through collaboration with industry partners, as well as involving student communities in competitions and thematic Capstone Project programs to produce concrete solutions across various fields, including Smart Farming.
Through this "Meet & Greet: AI-Based Innovators & Researchers," UGM hopes to encourage the emergence of innovative research initiatives that support digital transformation and align with UGM's vision as an excellent and innovative world-class research university.
