Promoting Intellectual Property Protection, SmartAgri UGM Participates in Patent Drafting Training EQUITY 2025/2026

Yogyakarta, February 11, 2026 – The SmartAgri team from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) participated in the Patent Drafting Training: Towards Cited Patents EQUITY 2025/2026 activity organized by the Intellectual Property Management Office (IPMO) UGM on February 10–11, 2026. The activity took place at Auditorium 407, Floor 4, PSLH Building, UGM, Yogyakarta.

This training is part of the EQUITY 2025/2026 program aimed at accelerating patent registration while improving the quality and quantity of intellectual property outputs from faculty and researchers within UGM. Through this program, participants not only gain conceptual understanding of the patent system, but are also directed to produce patent drafts ready for submission with strong potential for citation in both academic and technological contexts.

Over the two-day training period, participants received in-depth material on patent specification structure, formulation of strong claims, description composition strategies, and techniques for identifying novelty and inventive step based on prior art searches. The material and mentoring were provided directly by the IPMO UGM team together with the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) of the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia, which also served as instructor in this activity, enabling each participant to revise and refine their patent drafts systematically.

The SmartAgri UGM team attended with five patent drafts to be submitted for intellectual property protection. All drafts were consulted directly during the training as part of an intensive mentoring process to accelerate the submission process while ensuring completeness and document compliance with applicable patent drafting standards.

Participation in the EQUITY 2025/2026 program represents a step in strengthening the capacity for management and protection of intellectual property from research. Strengthening competence in patent draft preparation provides a foundation to ensure that innovations produced not only possess good scientific quality, but also meet legal protection standards and have potential for further development through downstream commercialization schemes and collaboration with industry partners.
