By: Fahmi Arsyad

Yogyakarta, April 30, 2026 — The research team from Smart Agriculture Research Center (Smartagri), Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (DTPB), Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FTP UGM), participated in the National Agrotropikal Seminar 2026 organized by the Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Mulawarman. The activity was held online through Zoom Meeting on Thursday, April 30, 2026, with the theme "Transformation of Technology and Agricultural Innovation for Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture."

This participation involved eight Smartagri researchers: Ardan Desta Vaunendra, Devi Ramdani, Rizqi Asy'ari Ramadhan, Bagus Dwi Putra Atmaja, Arinda Fadea Pramaesela, Faiz Ridwan Pratama, Les' Aullian Achmad Argito, and M. Ilham Al Marda, who contributed to the dissemination of research findings and strengthening of academic networks in the field of precision agriculture and smart farming. The national seminar featured keynote speakers and resource persons from various universities across Indonesia who discussed technological developments and innovations in the agricultural sector, with a focus on digital technology integration, improving production system efficiency, and sustainability strategies in facing global food security challenges.

During the activity, the Smartagri research team presented various research findings focused on the application of data-driven precision agriculture technology and smart systems to improve production efficiency and resource management. Several studies presented include:

  • Evaluation of Sprinkler Irrigation Implementation through Hydraulic Analysis and Water Distribution Uniformity Analysis Based on Christiansen Uniformity at Coastal Land in Glagah, Kulon Progo by Devi Ramdani
  • Development of IoT-Based Automatic Sprinkler Irrigation System at Coastal Sandy Land by Rizqi Asy'ari Ramadhan
  • Development of Fuzzy Logic Algorithm for Irrigation Optimization at Sandy Land Based on Evapotranspiration and Soil Moisture by Ardan Desta Vaunendra
  • Estimation of Rice Stomatal Conductance Using XGBoost Algorithm Based on Multispectral Imagery from Unmanned Aerial Vehicle by Faiz Ridwan Pratama
  • Development of Primary Canal Discharge Prediction Model Based on Deep Learning to Support Cropping Pattern Optimization in Sapon Irrigation Area, Kulon Progo District by Bagus Dwi Putra Atmaja
  • Quantification of External Factors as a Basis for Operator Performance Evaluation in Sapon Irrigation Area by Arinda Fadea Pramaesela
  • Characterization of Electrical Impedance of Lettuce Leaves at 0.4 V Voltage and 100 kΩ by Les' Aullian Achmad Argito

The research approach emphasizes the integration of technologies such as remote sensing, data-based control systems, Internet of Things (IoT), and machine learning-based modeling in supporting decision-making in the modern agriculture sector. These research studies are part of the development of precision agriculture technology to support water use efficiency, optimization of irrigation systems, and sustainable improvement of agricultural productivity.

Students involved in this research are under the guidance of Dr. Murtiningrum and Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho from Smart Agriculture Research Center, Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada. This research activity is funded through the Priority Research Hilirization Program – SINERGI of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology 2025. Additionally, the research activity is also supported by the Food Security Working Group (WGFS 1.2) Precision Agriculture and Smart Farming, Inter-University Excellence Center (PUAPT) Universitas Gadjah Mada, which provides research facility support.

Participation in this seminar demonstrates the commitment of Smart Agriculture Research Center in developing research relevant to the needs of the modern agriculture sector, while serving as a forum for exchanging ideas, expanding collaboration, and strengthening contributions to support sustainable agricultural development.

This activity contributes to the achievement of SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). This aligns with the direction of Smartagri research development focused on precision agriculture technology innovation to support food security improvement and efficiency of agricultural production systems.
