SmartAgri UGM Showcases Smart UAV Technology Innovation at BRIN Exhibition on Smart Technology (BEST) 2026

Bandung, June 9, 2026 – Smart Agriculture Research Center (SmartAgri) Universitas Gadjah Mada participated in the BRIN Exhibition on Smart Technology (BEST) 2026, organized by Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN) as part of the International Conference on Smart Mechatronics Engineering (ICSMech) 2026 at The Trans Luxury Hotel, Bandung. At this event, SmartAgri showcased an innovation titled "Smart UAV Technology: Remote Sensing for Precision Agriculture", a technology for precision agricultural monitoring based on UAVs, remote sensing, and artificial intelligence.
The SmartAgri team participating in this exhibition consisted of Mutiara Alifia Ramadhanty as team leader and Fahmi Arsyad, S.T.P. as team member, under the supervision of Ardan Wiratmoko, S.T.P., M.Sc. The innovation presented is the result of research development within the Smart Agriculture Research Center, Department of Agricultural Engineering and Biosystems, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada.
Smart UAV Technology was developed to support precision agricultural monitoring through the utilization of UAVs, remote sensing technology, and artificial intelligence. This technology is designed to help identify plant conditions more quickly and accurately, including detecting plant stress indicators that are difficult to observe visually and monitoring large cultivation areas efficiently. At the BEST 2026 exhibition, the SmartAgri team showcased various UAV and AI-based technology developments that have been applied to various agricultural commodities, ranging from plant health monitoring, land condition analysis, to decision support systems. The presence of this innovation demonstrates the significant potential of digital technology in realizing a smarter, more efficient, and data-driven agricultural system.

Beyond serving as a platform for research dissemination, participation in BEST 2026 also provided an opportunity for the SmartAgri team to introduce various smart agricultural innovations to researchers, academics, industry practitioners, and stakeholders from various institutions. This activity also strengthened collaboration between Universitas Gadjah Mada and BRIN in developing UAV-based remote sensing technology to support the transformation of the agricultural sector toward the digital era and precision agriculture.
This activity aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) through increased productivity and food security, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through the development of UAV and artificial intelligence-based innovations, SDG 13 (Climate Action) through the implementation of more efficient and environmentally friendly agriculture, and SDG 15 (Life on Land) through support for sustainable land management via accurate and non-destructive plant monitoring technology.
