PT Sang Hyang Seri Board of Directors Visit FTP UGM, SmartAgri Presents Precision Agriculture Technology

Yogyakarta, August 26, 2026 – The Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP) of Universitas Gadjah Mada received a working visit from the Board of Directors of PT Sang Hyang Seri (Persero) on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The activity took place in the Meeting Room of the Department of Agricultural Engineering and Biosystems, Floor 3, FTP UGM, and is part of an effort to build opportunities for research collaboration and the development of agricultural technology. During the meeting, both parties discussed a number of technology needs that could be developed to support seed production, agronomy, mechanization, land management, and the implementation of data-based technology.

The visit was attended by the President Director of PT Sang Hyang Seri (Persero) Adhi Cahyono Nugroho, along with other representatives of PT Sang Hyang Seri. From FTP UGM, the activity was attended by faculty leadership and lecturers from the Department of Agricultural Engineering and Biosystems (DTPB). The presence of both parties provided an opportunity to discuss technology needs in the field and to explore forms of cooperation that could be developed through research and development activities.

One of the materials presented during the meeting was delivered by SmartAgri researcher, Ir. Andri Prima Nugroho, S.T.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., who discussed the use of UAVs to support precision agriculture on rice fields. The use of UAVs was discussed as an approach to increase the accuracy of plant condition monitoring through aerial observation combined with field data or ground truth. Multispectral sensor technology was also part of the discussion because it can help map heterogeneous field conditions and identify plant stress that is not easily visible through ordinary visual observation.
In this presentation, the use of UAVs was also linked to the need for the development of agronomy and agricultural mechanization. Data obtained from the field, including information on the dosage of production input use per hectare, can be utilized as supporting data in the analysis of plant and land conditions. This approach is expected to produce more objective information, with wider coverage, and can be developed in a scalable manner to support decision-making in agricultural fields.

In addition to UAV technology, Athala Fawwaz, a SmartAgri research assistant, also presented greenhouse technology and development, particularly to support nursery needs. The presentation covered the development of greenhouse technology and examples of dashboard systems that can be used to monitor and manage various conditions and parameters in agricultural systems in a more integrated manner. This technology is one of the alternatives discussed to support plant management in a more controlled and technology-based manner.
This meeting is a step to strengthen opportunities for collaboration between FTP UGM and PT Sang Hyang Seri in the development and implementation of agricultural technology. The collaboration that develops is expected to encourage the utilization of research results so that they do not stop at the development stage, but can be applied to address real needs in the agricultural sector. Through cooperation between academia and industry, the development of precision agricultural technology is expected to be carried out in a more targeted manner and provide wider benefits.
This effort is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) through support for increasing agricultural productivity and production efficiency, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through the development of UAV, sensor, and greenhouse technology for agriculture, and SDG 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goals) through strengthening collaboration between higher education institutions and industry. This activity is expected to be part of the development of agricultural innovation that is adaptive to field needs and can support the transformation of Indonesia's agricultural sector.
