SIPASI Training in Pamukkulu and Tabo-tabo: Modernizing Irrigation for Sustainable Agriculture

Makassar, April 25, 2025 – The Directorate of Water Resources Engineering Development at the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) in collaboration with the Center for Irrigation Modernization and Agriculture Studies (PKMIP) at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology UGM conducted SIPASI training (Agricultural Irrigation Management System) in the Pamukkulu and Tabo-tabo Irrigation Areas, South Sulawesi, on April 21-25, 2025. This training aimed to enhance the capacity of irrigation technicians and observers in managing irrigation water effectively and efficiently by utilizing modern technology.

The training team consisted of experienced experts and practitioners, including Dr. Murtiningrum, Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho, Ardan Wiratmoko, M.Sc., and the UGM irrigation modernization team. The training materials covered:

  1. Introduction to the Smart Irrigation Water Management Model Implementation Program in Tabo-tabo Irrigation Area by Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho
  2. Introduction to the use of SIPASI Mobile for operations – Yeste Sujut Triyanta
  3. Irrigation Management and Governance by Rohmad Basuki, STP.
  4. Discharge Measurement in Irrigation Networks – Dr. Murtiningrum and Bondan Satria Pamungkas, STP
  5. Equipment Maintenance for Effective Rainfall Measurement – Ardan Wiratmoko, M.Sc.

The training also included discussion and question-and-answer sessions, which provided participants the opportunity to interact directly with the experts and discuss field-related problems. Several emerging issues included discharge measurement methods without measuring structures, hardware and software equipment maintenance, and solutions for garbage problems in irrigation channels.

Field Practice Using SIPASI Mobile for Technicians and Field Coordinators in Tabo-tabo Irrigation Area

In addition to indoor training, participants also engaged in field practice at the Tabo-tabo Irrigation Area. This field practice included discharge measurement of irrigation network flows and intake observation. Participants also learned to operate irrigation testing and measurement equipment.

Automatic Weather Station (AWS) Maintenance in Pamukkulu Irrigation Area

The implementation of SIPASI 2.0 in Tabo-tabo Irrigation Area has shown positive results, with an increase in Cropping Index up to 185%. It is expected that this training will help improve agricultural productivity in the area and support the achievement of national food security.

This training is part of the Ministry of PUPR's efforts to modernize irrigation in Indonesia. With the application of modern technology such as SIPASI, it is hoped that irrigation water management can be more optimal, thereby increasing agricultural productivity and farmer welfare.
