Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho (UGM) Presents Smart Farming Innovation for Sustainable Food Security at Polbangtan Bogor 2026 National Seminar

Bogor, June 24, 2026 – Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho, Lecturer in Agricultural Engineering and Biosystems at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), participated as keynote speaker at the 8th Dies Natalis National Seminar of Politeknik Pembangunan Pertanian (Polbangtan) Bogor. The event, held in hybrid format (Zoom and YouTube), addressed a crucial theme: "Smart Farming as a Strategy for Sustainable Food Self-Sufficiency", aligned with the national effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) No. 2: Zero Hunger and No. 13: Climate Action.

In his presentation titled "Smart Farming Innovation and Agriculture 4.0: Intelligent Agriculture as a Strategy for Sustainable Food Self-Sufficiency", Dr. Andri emphasized that modern agriculture must transform by integrating digital technology to address complex challenges such as climate change, resource constraints, and increasing food demand. He explained how Smart Farming, through the application of IoT, AI, and big data, can increase production efficiency, reduce waste, and build climate resilience.

Dr. Andri also shared concrete examples of smart farming implementation that have been developed at UGM, such as sensor-based soil monitoring systems, precision irrigation, and the use of drones for land mapping. "This technology is not just about sophisticated tools, but about how we empower farmers with smarter data and decisions," he said.

The seminar was attended by more than 500 participants, including students, agricultural practitioners, and policymakers. The interactive discussion, moderated by Dr. Reni, raised various critical questions, such as the challenges of technology adoption on fragmented land and the integration of smart farming with conventional agricultural infrastructure. Dr. Andri responded with practical solutions, such as a phased approach, collaboration with Gapoktan, and the importance of synergy between technology, infrastructure, and farmer institutions.

Dr. Andri's participation in this seminar not only strengthened UGM's position as a center for tropical agricultural innovation, but also inspired participants to become agents of change in Indonesia's agricultural transformation. "Smart Farming is the key to realizing sustainable food self-sufficiency, but it must go hand in hand with farmer empowerment and supportive policies," Dr. Andri concluded.

About Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho is a Lecturer in Agricultural Engineering and Biosystems at UGM, as well as lead researcher at the Smart Agriculture Research Center.
